Church of the Holy Spirit – 2019 Music Minister Job Summary

We are seeking a part time Music Minister to begin immediately. The Music Minister leads the music ministry team and coordinates all music functions in the church. Our Sunday services feature blended contemporary and traditional music. We also host other seasonal events. Our average Sunday attendance is currently 155 in 2 Eucharistic services – 9AM and 11AM.

Reports To: Rector (Clancy Nixon), in a weekly face to face meeting
Status: Part-Time (13-20 hours per week, depending on desire and need); hourly rate is between $25 and $35 per hour, depending on experience and skills. Sunday hours are 7AM to 1PM.

JOB SUMMARY
The Music Minister shall be responsible for coordinating and providing God-honoring and technically proficient music for worship services and other church events. He/she shall provide leadership to a music team, select songs, as well as recruit, schedule, lead and coordinate members of the music team. (Recruiting includes identifying, screening and cultivating.) He/she shall seek out and encourage creative use of musical gifts by the congregation. He/she is encouraged to start choral groups, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee, coordinate, and lead all aspects of the music ministry including, but not limited to, the selection and leading of music, or recruiting of musicians for, Sunday Morning and scheduled special events (e.g., Christmas, Epiphany, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, etc.) Must communicate well with, and be responsive to, the Rector and the Rector’s secretary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises all music ministry team members including volunteer instrumentalists, paid instrumentalists, and vocalists. Sound technicians report to the Business Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will be a gifted and classically trained congregational worship music leader, comfortable with liturgical, charismatic, and other styles of worship, who has a sensitivity to the Rector, the congregants and the direction of the Holy Spirit, who can reverently, passionately, and worshipfully lead songs both instrumentally (keyboard/piano preferred, but guitar is acceptable) and vocally. Must be fluent with hymns as well as contemporary worship music and styles and have gifting and experience in leading ministries and musical groups. A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in music, Christian service or a related field is preferred, as is experience and proven abilities with choirs, drama and multimedia presentations. The candidate must be a servant-hearted, born-again, Spirit-filled Christian who is passionate about Jesus Christ and mature in the faith.
