Music Ministry

Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices to God- this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Through corporate worship, we seek to be transformed and renewed.  We want to encounter God, and we want to be changed and brought into alignment with His will for us.

The music ministry aims to be supportive of corporate worship at CHS.  Though clearly visible, the team that leads the singing during services is not the focal point of the service.  The music, along with word and sacrament is intended to draw people to offer themselves in an encounter with God.  We desire that all who come to CHS will taste and see that the Lord is good.

We believe that all of the spiritual gifts are still given by the Holy Spirit to believers to build the Church, and so we encourage believers ask for, receive, and to put their gifts into practice.  The gifts of prophesying, words of knowledge, speaking in tongues, and supernatural healing, also known as sign gifts, are at times expressed our services.  These gifts can help people encounter the Living God.   1 Corinthians 14:24 says, “But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare.  So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, ‘God is really among you!’”

The style of music at Holy Spirit is a blend of contemporary, traditional, and folk. You may recognize some of the songs we do from Jesus Culture, Bryan and Katie Torwalt, Hillsong United, Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, and many other artists.

We strive for a dynamic sound conducive to expressing a range of emotion in worship.  There are times for celebration, and times for reflection, listening, and silence.  Our instrumentation includes a drum set, electric bass, acoustic and electric guitars, keys, and lead singing.  We sing traditional hymns, and contemporary songs, with occasional praise songs from the recent past.

More than 20 people rotate through the worship team.  If you are interested in playing or singing in any worship or as a musical offering, please talk to Jeff Milrod on Sunday morning to schedule an audition.
