James 1:27 says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress.”
An example for the church to help the less fortunate is found in Acts Chapter 9 where Luke says “A believer named Tabitha was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor.”
Even though we live in one of the most prosperous areas in our nation, the poor do struggle among us. Jesus said in John 12:8, “You will always have the poor among you.” No matter how wealthy a community gets, there will always be those with much less, who are having trouble living day-to-day, or paycheck to paycheck.
Loving Leesburg’s purpose has expanded over time in how the ministry serves the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of both church members and people in our area. When funds are available, Church of the Holy Spirit helps to pay utility shut-off bills and to provide supplemental food and gas cards to those facing an emergency or crisis. Once a month, CHS prepares and serves food at the Loudoun County Homeless Shelter, as well as provides items to residents of the shelter that have specific needs, like items for a newborn.
We provide weekend meals to food-insecure children at Balls Bluff Elementary School through the Backpack Buddies program. Visiting those in prison to encourage them and stand with them is another ministry of Loving Leesburg. Concentrated prayer by appointment is also available to those who face life’s crises. Adversity is not a respecter of persons. Everyone faces adversity in life, and the Church of the Holy Spirit’s Loving Leesburg is there to help.
Loving Leesburg’s purpose is to serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the underserved in the greater Loudoun County area by impacting people’s lives with the love of Jesus Christ. We seek to mobilize the greater Loudoun community under one common mission to help the underserved with the provision of services and resources that foster hope, well-being, and self-sufficiency. Loving Leesburg is a ministry of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
